GC Capillary Columns

SGE's GC columns are manufactured end to end by SGE drawing on our five decades of capillary column innovation to provide you with separation solutions.

The column is the heart of a gas chromatograph , wherein the fundamental process of separation Takes place .its action is based on the fact that when a sample of gas or vapour is introduced into a column ,it spread by molecular diffusion to yield a concentration profile .As the sample moves through the column ,additional spread takes place but the band maintains its general shape, which is detected and recorded as the familiar chromatographic peak.

1) BP 624

  • US EPA 624 optimized column
  • Designed for volatiles analysis
  • Ideal for EPA624, SW-846 and 8240/8260 methods
  • Ideal for USP G43 method

Application Areas: EPA method 624, drinking water volatiles, chlorinated hydrocarbons, solvents

2) BP 20 (WAX)

  • Industry standard wax column.
  • Polar phase.
  • 240 - 280 ൰per temperature limit-dependent on film thickness.
  • Bonded and cross-linked.
  • Able to be solvent rinsed.

Application Areas: Alcohol, free acids, fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), aromatics, solvents, essential oils.
Applications FOO03, FOO24 FLA03, ALC03, ACI03, POL01, PHA13

3) BP 21 (FFAP)

  • Nitroterephthalic acid modified PEG.
  • Polar phase.
  • Ideal for low molecular weight acids.
  • 240/250 ൰per temperature limit.
  • Able to be solvent rinsed (water or methanol is NOT recommended for rinsing).
  • Bonded and cross-linked.

Application Areas: Volatile free acids, fatty acid methyl esters, alcohols, aldehydes, acrylates, ketones. Applications ACI02, SOL04.

4) PAH Column

Phase: BPX50, 0.25 μm

GC Capillary Column Ferrules

Signals that a ferrule is damaged include:


  • background noise from oxygen diffusinginto the system
  • column bleed catalyzed by oxidation
  • sample degradation
  • loss of sample
  • increase in detector signal noise
  • poor retention time reproducibility

General techniques for installing ferrules

  • Don't over tighten finger tighten column nut, then use wrench to tighten 1/4 turn
  • maintain cleanliness
  • bake out ferrules prior to use avoid contamination-fingerprints, oils
  • change ferrules when new columns or injector/detector parts are installed.

SEPTA

The role of septa for GC analysis is key with many chromatographic problems caused as a resultof inappropriate septa material or rolex replica uk inappropriate handling of the septa.

Desired septa attributes:

  • Must reliably seal against the carrier gas pressure in the inlet.
  • Must be capable of being pierced by the syringe needle without pieces of the septa being deposited in the GC inlet system, which would be catastrophic to the chromatography.
  • Must be capable of being pierced and resealed time after time.
  • Must not be allowed to be contaminated or bleed material into the chromatographic system

Low bleed high Temperature septa are designed for for manual injection at temperatures up to 400ecause of the low bleed they are ideal for use with Mass Spectrometers.

SYRING

SGE syringes are available for GC and LC manual injection, and for the major brands of GC and HPLC autosamplers.
Use of microliter volume syringes often presents two concerns - delicate plungers, and proportionally large sample hold-up in the needle. SGE syringe options featuring Plunger Protection, Guided Plunger and SuperfleXଵngers help prevent bending or kinking of the plunger. Syringes with the Plunger-in-Needle feature permit the injection of very small sample volume.
